The cabin, with its creaky porch and overgrown gardens, has been in the family for generations, passed down as a place of memories and respite. This year, the group includes James, the father, who hopes the retreat will mend fractured relationships; Lisa, the mother, eager to reconnect with her adult children after a year of distance; 17-year-old Emma, the rebellious daughter secretly juggling college applications and a newfound fear of growing up; and 14-year-old Noah, the quiet son who’s been withdrawn since his dog died last spring. They arrive just as dusk settles, the sky blushing pink and orange as the sun dips below the treeline, bringing with it a chill that lingers even through the cabin’s drafty windows.Unbeknownst to them, the cabin holds a darkness older than its timber walls. Local legend whispers of a family who vanished here decades ago, their screams echoing in the valley on stormy nights—a tale dismissed by the family as mere folklore until the first strange occurrence. That evening, as they sit around the crackling fireplace, sharing stories and a turkey dinner Lisa has prepared, Emma notices a faint, rhythmic thudding from the attic. “Did anyone hear that?” she asks, her voice trembling. Noah, who’s been staring at the floorboards, nods. “It’s like… someone’s walking up and down,” he says, his eyes wide. James dismisses it as a branch tapping against the roof, but Lisa, ever the worrier, insists they check. Together, they climb the narrow stairs, flashlight beams dancing over cobwebs and dusty trunks, until they find the attic door slightly ajar.Inside, the air is thick with the scent of rot and something metallic. A single, tattered photograph lies on the floor—a black-and-white image of a woman with a vacant expression, her hands bound behind her back. The thudding stops as they step inside, replaced by a low, guttural growl from below. The family races back down, heartbeats pounding, to find the cabin’s front door locked from the outside, the windows shuttered tight. The phone signal is dead, and the car keys are missing from the kitchen counter. As the clock ticks toward midnight, they realize the cabin isn’t just a refuge—it’s a trap, and the horror they’ve stumbled into is far more real than any ghost story. The thudding returns, closer now, and they hear a voice, faint but familiar, calling out for help… or maybe for blood. The family huddles together, wondering if they’ll make it through the night, or if this Thanksgiving will be their last.
